There came the point in my career that I wanted to pivot to a different field. I had been in the nutrition and fitness industry for many years, but I saw that there was a need for better healthcare. I decided that I wanted to revolutionize healthcare.
Why Healthcare?
In 2004, my brother, Peter, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. As a result, I spent a lot of time in doctor’s offices and hospitals with him. For the first time in my life, I saw how the healthcare system worked. While I appreciated all of the staff working tirelessly with my brother, I also saw many things I did not like. I realized there was a need for a company that truly cared about its patients and customers.
The Start of Vivera
I started Vivera with my co-founder. We came in with the mission to prioritize patients over people. While running Vivera, we also ensured that Vivera put patients first. We were not after people’s money but wanted to help.
Creating ZICOH
One of the first projects I began working on at Vivera was ZICOH. I remembered watching my brother take pain medication to manage his illness, and I wondered why pain pills were not regulated. For instance, if someone breaks their arm, a doctor may prescribe opioids to manage the pain. At that point, there will be minimal regulation. This patient who broke their arm can now take as many or as few of the pills as they would like. No one is checking in to see if there is adherence.
I eventually thought, “what if there was a device that could ensure that patients comply with their doctors’ and pharmacists’ prescriptions?” I truly thought that a device like that would revolutionize healthcare.
I met with my colleague and dear friend, Dr. Hatamian, an experienced professional in the healthcare and tech world. We sat down together and came up with a design for a product that would revolutionize healthcare.
Together, we created ZICOH. ZICOH is an electronic, dose-controlled medication delivery system that works seamlessly through the medication supply chain from the manufacturer to the patient to provide a fully integrated solution to prescription drug abuse. The patented ZICOH device can dispense tablets, capsules, or liquids as needed to facilitate patient compliance and provider oversight.
Patient-Centric Solutions
ZICOH is a patient-centric solution that has the potential to help revolutionize healthcare. The device’s design is to help with medication non-adherence. First, The dose-controlled prescription drug delivery allows pharmacists to program ZICOH to dispense medication dosages such as types, amounts, and frequency. This feature helps to prevent prescription drug abuse, potentially reducing the risk of overdose and addiction. In addition, ZICOH has integrable features such as fingerprint authorization to help prevent anyone other than the authorized ZICOH user from accessing the prescriptions. This is to help prevent prescription drug misuse or allow the prescription to end up in the wrong hands. Furthermore, ZICOH helps make medication adherence easier. ZICOH has the ability to set medication reminders and features a tamper-resistant design.
Revolutionizing Healthcare
Vivera does not stop with ZICOH. Our team is determined to continue to put patients first. Therefore, every day we are working on ways to revolutionize healthcare. There is a lot of work to be done. This is just the beginning.
